I’m Joe D’Amato, and this is my story.....

From the moment I arrived, I knew something was different. The sun was shining, the boats were gliding across the water, and somehow my to-do list had mysteriously disappeared. Armed with nothing but a pair of sunglasses and an unreasonable confidence in my ability to find the best fish tacos in San Diego, I set out on a journey. There were whale-watching adventures. There were sunsets so dramatic they looked professionally staged. There were long walks along the marina where I pretended to be deep in thought but was really deciding what to order for dinner. As the ocean breeze grew stronger and my responsibilities grew weaker, Mission Bay transformed me from an ordinary visitor into a waterfront legend, a self-appointed captain with no boat, a vacation expert with no official credentials, and a man determined to prove that relaxation is, in fact, a competitive sport.
