President & CEO
NABCEP
Shawn O’Brien is President and CEO of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), a certification organization for renewable energy professionals. NABCEP offers certifications and credentials for people working in photovoltaics, solar heating and small wind technologies.
Through his work with NABCEP, Shawn has collaborated with organizations responding to climate change and the transition to renewable energy. He has 20 years working in the certification industry, with experience spanning certification management, continuing education and global expansion.
Shawn has presented internationally on fair testing, credentialing standards, examinations, education and continuing competency. He has also helped certification and regulatory boards understand the role of examinations in credentialing and professional growth. Before joining NABCEP, Shawn was Chief Operating Officer of the National Board for Certified Counselors.
